Hi Everyone,
As term 2 comes to an end I begin to wonder where the year has gone. We have had lots of fun participating in our Fairy Tale theme and are looking forward to our Fairy Tale Ball on the last day of term. I am still deciding what to wear. It should be a great day, hope to see you there in your costumes!!!!!!!.
Just a reminder we are going swimming on the first Tuesday of term 3 and we are looking forward to that beginning. Have a relaxing and restful holiday and thank you to everyone for their help this term and reading the blogs.

May 2010

Dear All,

Welcome to Term 2!
It's been a while since this blog has been updated.

We celebrated the last day of Term 1 with our Prep Breakfast. Lots of parents and friends came and helped serve the breakfast for us. We loved coming to school in our pyjamas and were really happy that lots of parents came in their pjs too.

A huge thank you to all of the parents for their help for during Term 1.

We are well and truely immersed in our Fairy Tale Theme.
We are lucky enough to have Bennetts the Builder. He has enjoyed making us some pig houses, a troll bridge, wands and gingerbread men.

What fun we have had decorating them!! Our pig houses have even featured in the newsletter.
We are looking forward to our excursion to Anakie Fairy Park on May 28.

We are also planning a Fairy Tale Ball for the last day of Term 2. It is still in the planning stages and we will give you more information about this in the coming weeks.
We are also hoping to have parents come to school and read their favourite Fairy Tale to their child's class during the last week of term.

Hope you are able to assist us with this.

We hope to include photos in next blog........Stay tuned!!!!

We’re at the halfway mark already, how quickly the time has flown by! It was fantastic to see everyone looking so gorgeous this morning for their first school photos.

Responding with Wonderment and Awe – Term 1 Inquiry Unit
We will be starting our Inquiry Unit ‘Responding with Wonderment and Awe’ at the end of this week which will take us through to the end of term. During this unit the students will be able to observe and explore many science activities to learn more about how things might work, the world we live in and trying new things.
Some things they may explore are floating and sinking, yabbies, cars and ramps, juggling with scarves, musical instruments and shaving cream. It is essential that they have their art smock (labelled clearly with their name) so they may participate in all of the activities.

PMP
PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) provides activities designed to improve children’s perceptual awareness through motor skills. It enables children to become more efficient users of their bodies and it enhances their learning readiness. Activities include body awareness, eye/hand, eye/foot co-ordination, balance and ball skills.
We will be running activities from this program on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings until the end of term. A huge thank you to all of the parents who have volunteered their time to help us run this, it is only with your help that it can work.

Home Reading
Each child now has their Home Reading bag. They are a bright gold yellow and have reading record books inside (the Yellow Book). Please keep a daily record of your child’s reading in the Yellow Book. There are instructions on how to fill it in on the first few pages of the book. Please make sure you write in the date and title of the book every day.

Butterflies
We can’t believe the changes in the caterpillars over the weekend! Last week they were very hungry caterpillars and we could see them moving around and hear them munching on all the leaves. Over the weekend they have been busy preparing themselves for a phase of transformation called the chrysalis or pupa stage. This is where they are transforming from caterpillar to butterfly. They are stuck to the side of their container and not moving much or eating any more.
I wonder what will happen to them next. Do you think you know?

If you haven’t brought your library bag to school yet, remember to bring it for Thursday so you can borrow a book to take home. You can use the orange bag that the children brought home at the beginning of the year.

Art
We have been having a great time in art. If you have not sent an art smock to school yet can this please be done as soon as possible. You can send along the orange art smock the children brought home at the beginning of the year.

Fruitilicious Fridays
The school is providing fruit for the Preps to eat on Fridays as part of our Fruitilicious Friday program. A different fruit is provided each week to encourage children to taste and enjoy a range of this healthy snack. This program will run for the first half of the year.

Fruit in the classroom
Children are allowed to eat fresh raw fruit and vegetables at anytime in class. Please ensure your child has some of this brain food with them everyday.

Water bottles
Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle to school each day so that they can have a drink in class throughout the day.

Butterflies
Our caterpillars are growing bigger by the day and we will soon put some photos up for you to see. They are quickly munching their way through all of the lemon tree leaves I bring to school for them.
The caterpillars are black, brown and white at the moment and we’re watching to see any changes. They are growing very quickly – 1cm long already!
